Cape Alava – May 5-6, 2012

I led a Mountaineers backpack trip up Cape Alava. Party members include Nicole Hansen (leader), Suzanne Gerber (co-leader), Mary Rohlman (co-leader and mentor), Russell Ferguson, Theresa Geijer, Eileen Miller, Daren Nakagawa, Corey VanWoert and Heidi Walker. My original intent was to hike the Ozette triangle, but the timing of the tides was against us. Nevertheless, we had a very pleasant trip. It was a “super moon” weekend with the highest and lowest tides of the year. Plenty of wildlife spotted (many deer, bald eagles, and heron). A good early season trip to shakedown my backpacking equipment.

Much thanks to the drivers, Nicole, Suzanne, and Mary for getting us to the Ozette Ranger Station trailhead. It is a long drive (about 4 hours of drive time).
