I combined two hikes from “Day Hiking Columbia River Gorge” by Craig Romano to form a loop hike. We ascended up Benson Plateau via Ruckel Creek (hike 82), walked along the PCT on the plateau, descended via the Eagle-Benson trail, and returned via Eagle Creek (hike 81). Jennifer Lekisch and I hiked together on day 1 of our Columbia River Gorge getaway. My favorite part of the hike was the descent on the Eagle-Benson trail. At the end of the hike, after I removed my gators, I found I was bitten by a tick which had lodged itself pretty deep in the skin on my right calf. Jennifer pulled the guy out with a pair of tweezers but I still had a good scar there two weeks later.
Again my Android/GPS app petered out on me. I am definitely planning to invest in a dedicated GPS to track my adventures more reliably. Estimate 19 miles, 4500 ft. elevation gain. Quite an epic hike that left us exhausted the next day.
