On the first day of our Sun Mountain Lodge getaway, Jennifer Lekisch, Bobbie Laue, and I stopped along SR 20 near Mazama and hiked to the Goat Peak Lookout. See hike 104 in “Day Hiking North Cascades” by Craig Romano, or visit the WTA site’s description of Goat Peak. A little ambitious considering all the snow – but quite safe and do-able this time of year if equipped with micro-spikes and willing to walk on snow the entire trip. Our party was ready and willing, so we easily made the summit of this wonderful peak overlooking the Methow Valley above Mazama.
New pair of boots today (my trusty Vasque Sundowners finally fell apart the previous weekend on our Columbia River Gorge getaway). I also purchased a dedicated trail GPS to track my adventures.
